Angels in the Bible are often depicted as powerful spiritual beings who serve God. They are messengers, protectors, and warriors, carrying out God's will on Earth.  There are several classifications and hierarchies that have been developed over time but at least six different kinds are specifically mentioned in the Bible. Here are the main types of angels mentioned in the Bible:
  • Seraphim: These are the highest-ranking angels, often depicted as six-winged beings who constantly praise God.
  • Cherubim: These are powerful, protective angels often associated with guarding divine places.
  • Archangels: These are high-ranking angels who often serve as messengers and protectors. The most commonly mentioned archangels are Michael, Gabriel, and Raphael.
  • Guardian Angels: These angels are assigned to protect individuals.
  • Dominions: These angels are believed to oversee the universe and its order.
  • Virtues: These angels are associated with miracles and divine power.

One of the most well-known angelic appearances in the Bible is the story of the shepherds who were visited by a multitude of angels at the birth of Jesus. These angels heralded the birth of the Savior, filling the night sky with glory and singing praises to God. Their message brought joy and wonder to the humble shepherds, who then went to worship the newborn King. The other well know Bible story is the angel that saved Daniel from being eaten by a lion.
