This Week: July 7-12

Jeopardy

When Jesus asked his disciples, “Who do you say that I am?”, he wasn’t just looking for a correct answer—he was inviting them to wrestle with the most important question of their lives. And when Peter declared, “You are the Messiah,” he stepped into a truth that would change everything.
“But who do you say that I am?” Peter answered, “The Messiah of God.” (Luke 9:20)
Questions shape us more than answers ever could. What questions are you bringing to Jesus today? Whether you’re asking why, how, or where next, the answer—ultimately—is found in him.

Table of Contents

Key Points:

  1. Jesus Invites Our Questions - He doesn’t shy away from doubt, curiosity, or confusion. He meets us there.

  2. Faith Is Rooted in Who Jesus Is - Before we know what to do next, we start by naming who he is.

  3. The Right Questions Unlock the Right Answers - Sometimes we don’t get the response we want because we’re not asking the question God wants to answer.

5-Day Devotional

Day 1: Who Do You Say I Am?
Scripture Reference: Luke 9:20 "But who do you say that I am?"
This is the question every disciple must answer. Who is Jesus to you—not just in theory, but in your real life?

Action Step: Write down a one-sentence statement about who Jesus is to you right now.

Prayer Prompt: Jesus, help me see You clearly and confess who You are in my life.
Day 2: The Courage to Ask
Scripture Reference: Matthew 7:7 "Ask, and it will be given you; search, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened for you."
God welcomes our questions. The act of asking is itself an act of faith.

Action Step: Bring one lingering question to God in prayer today.

Prayer Prompt: Lord, I trust that You hear my questions, even when I don’t hear immediate answers.
Day 3: When the Answer Surprises You
Scripture Reference: Isaiah 55:8 "For my thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways my ways," says the Lord.
Jesus told his disciples the Messiah must suffer—an answer they didn’t expect.

Action Step:
Reflect on a time God’s answer looked different than you imagined.

Prayer Prompt: Father, help me trust Your wisdom, even when it challenges my expectations.
Day 4: Take Up Your Cross
Scripture Reference: Luke 9:23 "If any want to become my followers, let them deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me."
Following Jesus means daily surrender, not just agreement.

Action Step: Identify one area of your life where you’re holding back. Surrender it to God in prayer.

Prayer Prompt: Jesus, give me strength to follow You with my whole life.
Day 5: The Answer Is Always Jesus
Scripture Reference: John 14:6 "I am the way, and the truth, and the life."
Whatever the question, the answer is found in Christ.

Action Step: Write down the biggest question you’re wrestling with right now. Next to it, write: Jesus is the way.

Prayer Prompt: Lord, in all my questions, help me to remember that You are the answer.
