Pauses for Lent Day 32

Pauses for Lent by Trevor Hudson
Day 32 Word: TEMPTATION
Scripture: “For we do not have a high priest who is unable to emphasize with our weakness, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are - yet he did not sin.” Hebrews 4:15

We are "attacked" human beings. Each day brings with it temptations and bad influences that try to undermine our relationship with God. These temptations take the form of thoughts that carry us away from the loving way of Christ.

Scripture comforts us with the knowledge that Jesus has been tempted in every way, just like we have been, yet is without sin. Jesus reminds us that temptation itself is not a sin. Nor do our temptations surprise him since he has experienced them.

Like Jesus in the desert, we too need to face our temptations, name them, and share them with the One who alone can help us to overcome them.

Comment from Marie: I get so much satisfaction, more like relief, knowing that Jesus was tempted, just like every human being, just like me. I like that the author points out that temptation is not a sin. I like that if we acknowledge what we are going through God alone can help us overcome and not give into sin. What are your thoughts on today’s word?
