Pauses for Lent Day 26

Pauses for Lent by Trevor Hudson
Day 26 Word: FREE
Scripture:
“If you continue in My word, you are truly my disciples; and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.”  John 8:31-32

One of the great hymns that Charles Wesley wrote contains this line: “My chains fell off, my heart was free, I rose, went forth, and followed Thee.” These words give us a glimpse of the radical freedom Jesus promises to his followers.

Christ frees us from those chains holding our lives in bondage from which we seek release. Christ also frees us for a new life of discipleship, obedience, and adventure. We are set free to love, to praise, and to serve God with our whole being.

When we follow Christ, he liberates us from our shackles to become the people that God wants us to be. This is the glorious freedom offered to the children of God!

Comment from Marie: : “Radical freedom” and “glorious freedom,” I like these terms used in today’s post. Lent is a good time to examine what holds us back from experiencing radical, glorious freedom. What might interfere with the joyous dance of Easter? I have heard the term, “let go and let God” and think it is relevant to being free to love, praise and serve God with our whole being. What are your thoughts on today’s word?

When I read today's Pause for Lent, Chris Tomlin's song lyrics "My chains are gone, I've been set free" came to mind. I was not aware that Charles Wesley had written a hymn so long ago with the same concept.
