Pauses for Lent Day 3
Pauses for Lent by Trevor Hudson
Day 3 word: CHOOSE
Scripture: “Choose life so that you and your descendants may live, loving the Lord your God, obeying him, and holding fast to him” Deuteronomy 30:19-20
Our choices matter because their consequence forever shape our lives as well as the lives of others. According to Author T. Hudson, he would often tell his children “you are free to choose to do anything you want, but you are not free to choose the consequences.”
In the middle of the desert, Moses invites the Israelites to make choices that will lead to life. While they are not in control of what happens to them, they do have control of how they will respond to the events of their lives. The consequences of their choices will ripple throughout their lives and the future.
Lent asks us to examine our choices. In almost every moment of our lives we make choices that lead either toward life or death. Choosing life involves awareness of those thoughts, imaginations, actions, and even inactions, that sabotage our lives and awareness of those that nourish life.
Comment from Marie: I think it would be helpful, as author T. Hudson suggests, to think about and list those things that bring life and those that take life away. What’s on your list? Please share your thoughts on today's word.

Sorry for all the confusion the past couple of days. I'll try to get it sorted out. I'm new at doing this type of thing.
"Make good choices", is something I would tell my students and my own children. It is such a true statement, though. God wants us to choose life, to choose light, to choose right. I like the statement:" while we are not in control of what happens to us, we do have control of how we will respond to the events in our lives".
During this "pause" period of Lent, I need to think of my choices. Would the Holy Spirit be proud of these choices I have made? "Pause" and reflect...and then choose.
Thanks for sharing Nicole. I like how you prefaced choosing with pause and reflect. Thought should come before choosing. And some choices require prayer, as well as thought.
