Know God and Just Know

This Week's Scripture: 2 Corinthians 6:1-13

Everyone in the bible is on a journey from where they are to the next place God is calling them to be.
Describe a time you decided to try/start something new? Maybe a new job, hobby, major in college, or fitness routine.

From Marie S.
Knowing the right time to act is complicated. But by the grace of God, we can know and we can act. I just knew I should take the position being offered. After all, I had been preparing through 4 years of college and it was what I always wanted, to work with children and families when they were most in need. I would be doing this as a social worker at the Greene County Juvenile Office, a Division of Family Court.

I was young and the job was high stress. I had much to learn and the issues and problems presented to me were difficult. Added to this, I was preparing to implement other huge decisions, including; graduate from college, plan my wedding and move. All good stress, but  causing me to feel inadequate and doubtful. What I didn’t question was whether I should quit.  I was a newer Christian but I did pray and give thanks because this is what God had led me to do and I knew it.

Fast forward 37 years when I celebrated my retirement from the Juvenile Office.  Another decision, by God’s grace, I just knew I should make. Working at the Juvenile Office helped me grow as a Christian. I worked with many children and families and always tried to show them Christlike love and compassion. I encountered many trials that I prayed fervently about. My position changed several times and I became part of a leadership team where I could influence the approach used in every case, that being trauma informed, balanced, and restorative justice. And when asked to speak at my retirement party, I spoke of how this is what we all are called to do. To compassionately take care of the less fortunate. This is what God wants, and lucky for me, I knew it.

Lord, open our minds, hearts, eyes, and being so we can “just know” what it is you are asking us to do, and give us the Grace to do it.

Reflect now on your own Autobiography. When did you do something new? How did it go? Did you feel God was with you?

What a wonderful prayer, Marie. How often we ask, “Is this God directing me or am I listening to my own voice.” May we “just know.”
