‘Everyone then who hears these words of mine and acts on them will be like a wise man who built his house on rock. The rain fell, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on rock. And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not act on them will be like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell—and great was its fall!’

Matthew 7:24-27

Some houses are built on a slab of cement directly on the ground; not on a deep solid foundation.

Jesus is comparing a house foundation to our own lives.  He wants us to build a solid foundation focused on God. We need to hear and be a responding disciple so when we have a storm in our lives, we will remain focused on God.

James 1; 22-27 says “Do not merely listen to the word. Do what it says – not forgetting what it says. Keep oneself from being polluted by the world.”

So set aside time for God to build that foundation – Bible studies, prayer, reading your Bible.

Prayer: God, help us to stay focused on setting aside to study your word. Amen
