This Week: June 8-14
Pentecost
On the day of Pentecost, Peter stood before a bewildered crowd and delivered his first sermon. He reminded them—then and now—that God’s Spirit is alive and working in ways we may not understand, often moving us before we feel ready.
“This is what was spoken through the prophet Joel… I will pour out my Spirit upon all flesh.” (Acts 2:16–17)
The Spirit came not with ease, but with power. Not with predictability, but with purpose. Peter, once unsure and impulsive, now becomes the voice through which God launches the church. Just like Peter, we are called—ready or not—to step into moments that matter.
Table of Contents
Key Points:
- The Spirit Moves Before We Feel Ready – Peter wasn’t prepared, but the Spirit was. Often, we are sent into holy work before we feel fully equipped.
- God Speaks Through Us – When we open ourselves to the Spirit, God can work through our words, our actions, and even our fears.
- The Holy Spirit Nudges and Shoves – Sometimes we feel a gentle call, other times a forceful push. Either way, the Spirit invites us into God’s ongoing work.
5-Day Devotional
Day 1: Ready or Not
Scripture Reference: Acts 2:14 "But Peter, standing with the eleven, raised his voice and addressed them..."
Peter didn’t plan to preach that day. He simply responded. Are you open to being used by God even when you don’t feel ready?
Action Step: Think of a time when you stepped up unexpectedly. What did you learn? Journal your reflections.
Prayer Prompt: Lord, I may not feel ready, but I’m willing. Use me for your glory.

Day 2: The Spirit Is Already Moving
Scripture Reference: Joel 2:28 "I will pour out my spirit on all flesh..."
The Holy Spirit doesn’t wait for perfect conditions. God is already at work in and around you.
Action Step: Notice one way today the Spirit might be nudging you—through a conversation, a feeling, or a moment of clarity.
Prayer Prompt: Holy Spirit, open my eyes to see where You’re already at work.

When it’s time to speak, trust that God will give you the words.
Action Step: Have an intentional conversation with someone today. Ask how you can pray for them.

Scripture Reference: Acts 8:29 "The Spirit said to Philip, 'Go over to this chariot and join it.'"
Sometimes the Spirit leads with a whisper, not a shout. Will you follow?
Action Step: Take one small step you’ve been resisting. It could be a phone call, an apology, or volunteering.
Prayer Prompt: God, help me obey the small nudges of Your Spirit with boldness.
