Dancing Before the Lord: Worship Without Fear
In 2 Samuel 6:1-5, David leads the procession as the Ark of the Covenant is brought to Jerusalem. It is a moment of great joy, a declaration that God’s people are finally home. Overcome with celebration, David dances before the Lord with all his might.
"David and all the house of Israel were dancing before the Lord with all their might, with songs and lyres and harps and tambourines and castanets and cymbals." (2 Samuel 6:5)
To outsiders, David’s uninhibited worship looked improper. Even his own wife, Michal, ridiculed him for making a spectacle of himself. But David wasn’t dancing for appearances—he was dancing for God. He understood that true worship requires humility, joy, and a willingness to let go of self-consciousness.

Key Points:
- Worship Is About the Heart, Not Appearance – David’s dance was not dignified, but it was authentic. God delights in worship that is real, not rehearsed.
- Following God May Look Foolish to Others – Just as John Wesley took his preaching outside the church, sometimes serving God means stepping outside of what’s considered “normal.”
- Our Faith Calls Us to Boldness – Whether through acts of generosity, forgiveness, or radical love, faith asks us to live differently than the world expects.
